When it comes to teenagers, it can be difficult to buy birthday gifts for. You want to make sure that you birthday gift is cool and in tune to the latest gadgets, you can try researching online for what is in at the moment. In particularly, teenagers who have an interest in skateboarding, researching online can help you get a better understanding of their interest.
Sometimes it can be hard to find the right birthday gifts for skateboarders, but a mom of three skateboarders has some tips for others. She suggests buying skateboarding games and toys. There are a wide assortment of these to choose from, but some of the most popular are Tech Deck fingerboard sets, Tony Hawk video games and Elicit Interactive trading cards.
Parents that choose the Tech Deck set may also want to look at the schedule for the US Finger Boarding Championships, since kids who enter have a chance to win part of an $8,000 total prize purse. Skateboarding books also make great birthday gifts, such as Tony Hawk's 900 Revolution books which will hit the market in August 2011. These books are best suited to tweens, while preschoolers will love books like Stanley's Wild Ride by Linda Bailey.

There was a trend, for a time, where birthday gifts and parties for kids had to be as extravagant as possible. When it comes to adults, as long as the budget truly allows, I'm all for wonderfully huge gifts. In fact I was overwhelmed with appreciation when my husband gave me one of the finest Patek Philippe watchesfor my last birthday. When it comes to kids, however, I think it's best for them to understand and appreciate simpler pleasures. That way their happiness isn't contingent on things. After all, it's best for them to be able to know happiness that's not dependent on outright materialistic frenzy! Kiddy birthday parties, too, for a time, got to be huge productions, with themes, and big, costly surprises…they had to be real events, sometimes even with rented venues. Some parents seemed at a loss for how to top one year's party with the next, or how to top the parties mounted by other parents for their children. Perhaps one of the effects of the economic downturn is the of curbing some excesses such as these. Perhaps it's an opportunity to rediscover the joys of a good old picnic, or parties where the kids enjoy playing good old games rather than being entertained.

Creative birthday gifts for kids don't have to cost a fortune. For example, you can give the birthday girl or boy everything they need to write or draw the story of their life. For a child just learning to read, write or draw, you can include a list of prompts, such as instructing the child to draw a picture of a favorite animal or place to visit, or something that makes them laugh.
You can package this gift with a pad or a book of drawing paper, markers, crayons and enough prompts for them to complete all the pages in the book. Another gift idea is a custom play kit designed to spark the interest and imagination of the birthday child. You can design the kit on paper by making a list of contents, then go shopping for the items in your home, garage or attic, or at thrift shops. You can make kits with themes like Dress-Up, Kitchen, Handyman, Restaurant, Doctor, Cowboy and Entertainer.
