There was a trend, for a time, where birthday gifts and parties for kids had to be as extravagant as possible. When it comes to adults, as long as the budget truly allows, I'm all for wonderfully huge gifts. In fact I was overwhelmed with appreciation when my husband gave me one of the finest Patek Philippe watchesfor my last birthday. When it comes to kids, however, I think it's best for them to understand and appreciate simpler pleasures. That way their happiness isn't contingent on things.
